The Arizona Burn Center at Maricopa Medical Center provides comprehensive care for any person who has sustained a thermal injury including burns and frostbite. The Arizona Burn Center also treats toxic epidermal necrolysis.
This booklet was developed for Pre-Hospital, Urgent Care Centers and Hospital Emergency Department Staff who need to be familiar with the resources available to treat burn patients and to know the key steps to follow in stabilizing these patients. Appropriate patient management prior to transport to The Arizona Burn Center, if required, is essential to the treatment of all burns.
Stabilization and emergency management of thermal, electrical, and chemical injuries influence survival and functional recovery. Guidelines for appropriate destination and in-hospital care for burn patients have been established by the American Burn Association.
