Recommendation: For burns that cross both the anterior and posterior knee.

Purpose: To assist in maintaining an extended position of the knee, thereby decreasing the risk of flexion contractures.

How to Apply:

  1. Position the patients knee in full extension.
  2. Place a towel roll under the heel and slide the immobilize underneath the leg.
  3. Align the patella in the cutouts intended for that purpose.
  4. Fasten the Velcro straps.

Recommended: Immobilizer should be worn both pre and post grafting.

Wear Time: (STSG and Integra). Wear time is up to 20 hours per day as tolerated, with hour rests every three hours. (Rests are optional if patient can tolerate prolonged wear.) After grafting the knee immobilizer should be worn at all times for five days.

Cautions: Check for redness. If this occurs, discontinue use and contact P.T./O.T.
